Chapter Three—A Burden Lifted and a Journey Begun

Making it up the Hill of Difficulty was hard for Christian. Yet though taking it easy for a while seemed like a good idea, it led him to lose his “roll” and forced him to retrace many of his steps. God desires that His children have times of refreshment—but we must never forget to be watchful. It is when we feel the most secure that the danger is often the greatest.
 

Chapter Four—A Fierce Battle and a Dark Valley

Christian fought manfully against Apollyon when he came at him in the open and ordered him to abandon Christ. Yet when the blasphemies of the wicked one seemed to be coming out of his own heart, he found the battle much harder. Though the weakest believer can defeat Satan in the strength of Christ, the strongest believer can be deceived by the subtlety of the tempter.
